5 Must Try Sparkling Wines

Below are some of my go to sparkling wines, most of which can be found at your local grocery store or Trader Joe’s.

5 Must Try Sparkling Wines

Freixenet ($9-$12)

Fresh-eh-net; there is something about this cava that is incredible. I actually tried it at a sports bar and I have to say I was pretty impressed. It’s crisp and fresh with a hint of citrus. It was originated in Penedes, also known as cava country, which is just southwest of Barcelona. In order for a sparkling wine to be considered a cava, it has to go through a number of regulations so this is indeed a special brand. If I’m going to an event where I can bring something, Freixenet is definitely my go to. Plus the black bottle looks amazing.

Anna de Codorniu Blanc de Blancs ($14)

I had this cava at a going away party. Not only did it taste really good, the white casing doubles as a great decor item for an event.  It had a tropical/citrus taste that I really enjoyed; interesting enough the site said it pairs well with braised meats and seafood and I tried it while enjoying shrimp tacos. Perfect pair. Like the others on the list you can find this at a Ralph’s grocery store or a market similar to it.

Louise d’ Estree Methode Traditionnelle Brut ($8)

I received this as a Thank You gift while at work but I didn’t drink it right away. Once I finally opened it, I was bummed that I waited so long. This sparkling wine surprised me. It’s nice and dry but doesn’t leave a lingering taste. I paired it with orange juice for mimosas and finished it off by itself. Definitely recommend it if you’re on a budget.

Chandon ($15)

I bought Chandon from Trader Joe’s for the 4th of July weekend. You don’t have to spend a lot to have a good sparkling wine. Chandon at the grocery store is $20+ at Trader Joe’s it’s $15. You can feel confident bringing something without breaking the bank. This a great Brut …. pairs nicely with …..

Mumm Napa ($15)

Similar to the Chandon, I bought this for the 4th of July weekend to take to a friends house. I did a post about 16 rose’s to try and Mumm and Napa is one of them. It was very good, it wasn’t too sweet and I waited until dessert to try it. I paired it with cheesecake topped with fresh strawberries and it was nice because it didn’t cancel out the sweetness from my dessert; instead it complimented it. This is certainly a new favorite of mine and I can’t wait to explore the rest of their brand.
